MEWCAT was initially founded in 1990 as a women’s initiative to improve information and education for the population of remote tourist regions such as the Greek islands. MEWCAT promotes sustainable and environmental friendly development of tourism, regional social development in the sectors school education, adult education, life-long education and vocational training, and supports the establishment and promotion of SMEs in disadvantaged areas like the Cyclades.
The population of these regions is disadvantaged due to their geographical location and limited access to modern communication technologies, formal education structures and cultural events. MEWCAT strives to strengthen further education in tourism regions by providing access to new technology education, focusing especially on school education, basic vocational training, language learning, improvement of tourist management, creation of equal opportunities for women and their integration into the labour market.
MEWCAT is a non-governmental organisation (partnership of civil law). |
